Melamine is a substance used in the manufacturing of fertilizer and plastics...and so obviously has no place in your pets' food. So what does this all tell us? For the 30 years, I've been in practise, I have constantly warned my pet-owning patients to be very suspect of what is in pet food. Recall is no suprise..I've only wondered why its taken so long for something to come out of the woodwork! WHY YOU WANT RECIPES FOR HOMEMADE DOG FOODS:Protein, probably the most important element in the animal’s food, can’t be compared from product to product, as some proteins are just not very digestible for them. Soy and corn, for example are vegetarian sources and dogs and cats do not have the proper enzymes to break them down. These are meat eaters and need that along with some cooked grains. The next factor is digestibility - one item could be 70% and another 90%…. such as soy versus beef.
" By-products could be anything from poultry feather meal, connective tissue, and fecal waste from poultry and other animals, horse and cattle hair. All of these add to “crude” protein by offer no nutrition. EVEN A GO NATURAL DOG FOOD RECALL - HOW IS ONE TO KNOW?
